- Daily Throughput: How many guests can be served in a day, considering how long they stay (turnover).
- Effective Capacity: The *actual* maximum number of guests, limited by your biggest bottleneck (like entry gates or ride capacity). This is your true daily limit.

Safe Capacity is the number of people who can safely be in your park *at one time*. Daily Throughput is the total number of unique guests you can accommodate *over the entire day*. Throughput is higher than Safe Capacity because guests are constantly arriving and leaving, creating turnover.
A bottleneck is the part of your operation that restricts overall capacity. Even if you have space for 10,000 guests, if your entry gates can only process 5,000 per day, your effective capacity is 5,000. Common bottlenecks include main entrance security, popular ride queues, or food service lines during peak hours. Identifying and addressing your main bottleneck is key to increasing overall capacity.
This varies greatly by venue type. Here are some general industry guidelines:
- Open-Air Festivals/Concerts: 10-25 sq ft/person
- Theme Parks: 60-100 sq ft/person (allows for queues, attractions)
- Water Parks: 80-150 sq ft/person (more personal space needed)
- Museums/Exhibits: 40-80 sq ft/person
- Address the Bottleneck: Add more entry gates, optimize ride loading procedures, or implement mobile ordering for food.
