Managing visitor flow is key to a successful institution. This tool uses two primary calculations to help you understand your operational capacity.

/ Formula

This is the total number of people your venue can comfortably hold at any single moment. It's a snapshot of your venue's theoretical limit at a point in time.

Maximum Instantaneous Capacity = Total Area / Space per Person
/ Throughput

The total number of visitors your venue can handle over a full hour, accounting for how long people stay. It's a better measure of your true capacity than the instantaneous number.

Hourly Throughput = Max Capacity * (60 / Average Visit Duration)

Measure the square footage of all areas accessible to the public. This includes galleries, lobbies, hallways, and public restrooms. Exclude non-public areas like offices, storage rooms, and staff-only corridors.
